Loss coaching

Are you dealing with this now?

  • My job has become redundant after years of loyal service. What a slap in the face. What now?
  • I’ve just lost my job and I'm depressed and I don't know how to get out of it.
  • I'm applying for a new job, but I'm still so dejected from losing my old position that I'm going to interviews feeling drained en with less self-confidence.
  • They promised me a promotion, but it keeps getting postponed, and they even want to sideline me or get rid of me.
  • Sometimes everything comes at once: my father, mother or spouse dying or coldly distancing themselves from me, a seriously ill friend, a boss who's impossible to work with and picks on every snail. It's like I'm constantly being knocked out.
  • I'm becoming increasingly isolated, with colleagues gossiping about me, a loyal friend suddenly making a complete 180 turn, and hardly anyone supporting me. I'm losing sleep over it.
  • As a director, I find myself going from one lawsuit to another and I wonder who I can still trust.

How on earth do you cope with this?

Life can be brutal and feel unfair. Sometimes, losing something can throw you off balance so completely that you don't know how to move forward. Or, as a client once told me after being laid off: "It was like the ground was pulled from under my feet; I literally couldn't find my way home for a moment."

You sometimes go on autopilot, but you're more concerned with surviving than with living. How do you find the energy and motivation to move forward again?

Good grief coaching can provide significant support, allowing new energy, positivity and perspectives to emerge.

Why choose loss coaching here?

I have spent 35 years as a psychologist guiding thousands of people through personal and professional transitions. I also spent four years developing a transition program for the Dutch government, called "New Perspective”, for people facing impending or actual job loss. During that time, I have specialized myself in the latest insights and methods for grief counseling. I have also provided dozens of training courses and educated internal trainers and coaches.

Moreover, born in 1962 I have extensive life experience and has personally experienced and overcome many losses myself. This makes me authentic and credible in guiding people through coping with loss.
With me as a your grief coach, you can work on:

  • Healthy acceptance of your loss and its impact
  • Recognizing and acknowledging the pitfalls to avoid or even amplify the emotional pain
  • Coping adequately with loss so it can naturally find a place you can bear
  • Providing the right support that you can truly rely on in difficult times
  • Methods that help you leave the loss behind more easily
  • Coping with the emptiness
  • Finding new perspectives that make work or life meaningful again.

Martin Thoolen: Awareness at work

Because my approach is both very practical and profound as a psychologist, the effects are more fundamental, and you undergo a transformation that leads to lasting results.

The Journey of Transformation

The journey to your transformation requires you to look at yourself with a clear and honest eye and gradually face your emotional pain. But by carefully approaching it, rather than running away, you will notice that relief, more energy, and a contented heart will gradually gain space within you. I offer you safety and insights for this.

In addition to your own behavioral choices, you will gain insights and tools to make sense of everything and rediscover yourself. Not just through tips and tricks, but also through new control over your ego and avoiding its pitfalls. And above all, the healing of your soul pain. Because you can change behavior, just like you weed, but if you don't tackle it at the root, it will return.

There is no such thing as a standard approach with me

I don’t offer a standard program, just as I don’t use only models. I provide customized solutions, tailored to your reality. This is because everyone and everyone process is unique and therefore different. If you choose loss coaching with me, there is a good chance that you will come out feeling relieved and stronger than you went in.

Procedure and Costs

To explore, without obligation, whether I can truly help you, you can request a free online exploratory consultation. This will allow you to get to know each other and see if we connect. There's ample opportunity for you to share your story and explain the reason for your coaching. I'll help you agree on concrete goals that we can use to monitor your development.

I'll also clearly explain how you can use insights, exercises, and assignments to truly help you progress. This way, you'll know exactly what to expect when you embark on a coaching program with me.

If we both feel comfortable working together, I'll discuss a suitable proposal for the number of coaching sessions and the associated current costs. If desired, I'll prepare a quote outlining your objectives, conditions, and costs, which were discussed verbally at the end of the discovery consultation.

Loss coaching typically consists on average of 6 to 12 sessions or more depending of the severity and your way of coping. Usually the sessions last 1.5 hours each allowing you to truly delve deeper and address your core issues.

After a verbal interim evaluation, we'll assess whether there's actually been any desired development. As we continue the process, you'll increasingly become more independent, and your remaining coaching sessions will be every 2, 3, or 4 weeks. This way, you'll always have a backup to look forward to.
